As far as bands go, my favourites actually include a lot of black and death metal (I know, can you believe it?). I wasn't feeling particularly dark or brutal today so I wanted something more fun and light hearted. My favourite musician right now is actually Grimes (I'm seeing her live in a couple weeks!), but I wasn't inspired there either. So in a giggly moment of silly, I picked Jem and the Holograms!
Bahah! OK. I started with a base of China Glaze White On White. I left my ring finger white and on the rest I did a gradient using Chi Chi Capital H.I.M, China Glaze Dance Baby, Mavala Candy Floss and China Glaze Frosty. Then I did some toothbrush splatters with white acrylic paint. I painted a few streaks of light at the top using Frosty and White On White, then added some little holo glitters (Chi Chi Disco Diva) and a coat of Seche.
I painted Jem using fluid acrylic paints and my new tiny detail brush! Same with the logo and the musical notes. I added some more Disco Diva to Jem's hair and some Zoya Ziv over the notes for extra gold sparkle. More Seche. Done!
I spent too many hours painting my nails today. I was going to do more yesterday, but I wasn't feeling very well. so I need to just relax for a bit and then start putting up the Christmas Tree!

ReplyDeleteThank you! And Grimes is going to be awesome! So excited!
DeleteI love these so freakin' much!! How do you DO that!? I wish you lived in Palmy so you could teach me!
ReplyDeleteHaha! Lots of time, patience, stubbornness and trial and error. Seriously. The amount of times I paint over a spot because I messed it up. It can be really frustrating but I just persevere.
DeleteAlso, a very very tiny brush and good light.
If you're ever up in Auckland or I'm in Palmy we'll have to have a nail art and polish party!
Yeah, I guess that sounds about right :P. Very cool though. I'm actually in Auckland next week for a few days, so who knows? :)

DeleteWow, I love the mix of different techniques here. The gradient of the "JEM" over the gradient of the base, plus the splatter effect, plus the freehand portrait... You're truly an artist. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Moana! I did feel like I needed a curly mustache and artiste's hat with everything going on. This was fun to do!
Deletethese are so amazing! fantastic job! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThe tiny gradient in the Jem logo is seriously blowing my mind right now. [7] and looking at nail blogs...
ReplyDeleteI just blended the pink and yellow paints I was using when I painted it :)
DeleteI love this! Jem and the Holograms was one of my fave cartoons as a kid. For some weird reason though whenever I make a reference, people look at me like I'm weird. Great job!
