I knew it was going to be a pain and take forever, but I also wanted to challenge myself. I am so glad I did. I really love the result.
Funny thing is, I don't think I could carve that pumpkin. Really awesome! Naturally now I need it I can't for the life of me find where it came from. Whoever carved it is very talented though.
For my nails I started with 2 coats of China Glaze Liquid Leather. The brown swirlies are done in OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys. The little jack-o-lanterns and glowy area on my ring finger are done with Essie Orange, It's Obvious! and OPI Need Sunglasses? That ring finger.. ahhh so many layeerrs. The kitty and star are in Liquid Leather. The green around the mini jack-o-lanterns is a mix of OPI Need Sunglasses?, Essie Pretty Edgy and China Glaze I'm With The Lifeguard. It's all topped with two coats of Orly Polishield to try level it - it was pretty bumpy and still isn't completely smooth.
For all the designs I used a combination of a tiny brush and very tiny dotting tools. I also ended up light headed because I held my breath every time I did something. Doesn't matter; pretty nails.
Please check out all of the other lovely and very talented ladies taking part in this challenge!

These are AMAZING. I found you through Reddit... Hi! Wow, I'm definitely adding you to my blogroll! I remember seeing your rainbow tip mani and being really blown away. You've got talent madam.
ReplyDeleteHi! thank you so much! I remember your blue rain drop nails. you made me want a matte top coat. you have a new follower now too :D
DeleteD'aw!!! Hehe, thanks! My blog is seriously not as awesome as yours yet, but you and all of the nail bloggers are inspiring me so much... I love your designs, they're all so original and personal. You have great creativity! I guess challenges are good for that, you have to figure out what to do from a theme and so you end up doing something other than just trying known techniques, etc. I think I might give your Halloween challenge a try, even though I'm a bit late. See you around!
DeleteChallenges definitely help! get the creative juices flowing.. or something. I was late to this challenge too so I'm sure it's fine.
DeleteOne: You did a *fabulous* job of rendering that pumpkin!! Wow!
ReplyDeleteTwo: Here's the source for the pumpkin itself -

Gotta love google image search...which, okay, took me to a blog that had a post with *109* cat-carved pumpkins, but thankfully *they* included links to where they found said pumpkins. Which led to a deviantart account which was not the artist, but did link to the original artist...heh. Takes longer to describe the path I took than it did to find it! :)
Holy crap. you're some kind of google wizard. I'll add the source in tomorrow when I'm not on my phone. Thank you!
DeleteThis image is actually slightly different. It's the same design, but a different artist. I did a reverse image search on the one I used and all sources led back to a deviantart page that no longer exists! Maybe the artist took it down and now it's just floating in limbo on the internets.
DeleteThis is adorable. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you like it. thank you!
DeleteHoly CRAP these are awesome. Like... I don't even have any other words. They're just awesome.

DeleteMe again!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou should totally enter them in the Bundle Monster Halloween contest:
https://www.facebook.com/bundlemonster/app_95936962634
The deadline is tomorrow (the 13th)... AND you have to have some sort of Bundle Monster thingie involved in it (a sequin might do?) so that means adding something to your mani... but oh my god, if you don't win, I don't see who could.
Thanks, I'll look into it. I nearly stamped the background with a BM plate but the brown wouldn't cooperate.
DeleteI love your design. Really fantastic job.

DeleteThanks so much Patricia! I don't understand spanish, but I really like your blog anyway!
ReplyDeleteGirl! I just found your blog and I have to say you are absolutely incredible! Keep it up with great talent, I so love, love your blog and your ideas! :)
ReplyDeleteHey Bazzia! I'm so glad you found it and like it! I definitely intend to keep doing this. It's awesome fun.
Deletethis is one of my favorite manicure designs that i think i've ever found!! i love love love pumpkins, so I'm going to replicate.. how did you get the colors to stand out so well against the black, especially the green?? usually i have to prime the design spot with white polish, but i won't really be able to do that with the vines.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! The reason most of them stand out is because the polish is fairly thick - either through layers or just applied fairly thickly with a dotting tool. The green is a mix of China Glaze I'm With The Lifeguard, Essie Pretty Edgy and OPI Need Sunglasses? It's mostly I'm With The Lifeguard though, which is a fairly opaque neon. That's probably why it worked out quite well.
DeleteI'd love to see your manicure when it's done!
Well even though I finished the top coat today.. a little late.. I'm really happy with how it turned out!! How do I post a picture here?
DeleteIf you've put it up online somewhere just reply with the link!
